How to Clean a Moldy Shower

Household bathrooms are one of mold’s favorite spots to grow. The moist, humid environment creates an ideal breeding ground that the fungus loves. Shower mold is one of the most common types of bathroom mold, due to how much excess moisture is typically left on the tiles, curtains and drains. Follow the below steps if your bathroom in Orlando, FL, is experiencing a mold outbreak.

Cleaning Shower Mold

Moldy showers are super common, so there are plenty of tried and true cleaning methods available. Here’s one of the most effective techniques:

Create a non-toxic mold cleaning solution using equal parts white vinegar and water. Pour this solution into a clean spray bottle.

Generously mist down the moldy areas with the cleaning solution. Make sure to create an even coating without over-saturating the area. If puddles are forming in the shower basin, you’re using too much solution. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Wipe the effected areas with a clean cloth. The mold should come off easily. Depending on how large the area is, you might need to use multiple cloths.
If any stubborn mold remains, scrub it off with a kitchen sponge or scrub brush. Mold that accumulates in the grout and caulking can be removed using an old toothbrush.

Dry the area with a fresh, clean cloth. Make sure to remove all of the excess moisture in order to prevent further mold growth.

Preventing Bathroom Mold

Keeping your bathroom as clean and dry as possible is the best way to prevent subsequent mold growth. Next time you take a shower, open a window or leave the bathroom door cracked in order to prevent condensation from building up. After each shower, you need to wipe down the tiles, edges of the tub (when applicable) and mop up any puddles on the bathroom floor.

Shower mold is extremely common. Luckily, it’s also relatively easy to take care of by yourself. If the above technique isn’t working for you, or your black mold problem has spread out of your control, you need to contact mold remediation experts as soon as possible.
